Monty Halls’ experience as a Royal Marine set him up for the adventuring career he would go on to succeed in. Having once worked for Nelson Mandela, Monty took a change of career and moved into the expedition world, qualifying as a Marine Biologist and travelling to some of the most inhospitable environments on the planet.
Since finding his own expedition company in 2003, he has since led expeditions to Malawi to explore a lake’s ecosystem and investigate poaching activity, to South Africa looking for prehistoric settlements in caves, plus no less than four circumnavigations of the globe.
Monty’s exploration experience brought him to the attention of television producers, and he has since worked for Channel 4, Channel 5, the BBC, the History Channel and National Geographic.
He is best known for his BBC series Great Escapes (2018-), where he lived on the Scotland and Ireland coasts with his dog. He has also presented Great Barrier Reef (2012), Great Ocean Adventures (2006), Monty Hall’s Dive Mysteries (2013), Lost Worlds (2015), The Fisherman’s Apprentice (2012), WWII’S Great Escapes: The Freedom Trails (2017) and My Family and the Galapagos (2018-2020). He was also a contestant (and winner) on Superhumans (2004), a one-off programme which saw 10 people undergo extreme physical and mental tests to find Britain’s most superhuman.
Using his experience as a Royal Marine, a scientist and an explorer, Monty has become a passionate keynote and corporate speaker and course leader. In 2016, he founded ‘Leaderbox’, a training system drawn from elite sports, business, military and education that helps create a leadership culture within companies.
Monty’s eponymous company ‘Monty Halls Ltd’ offers a corporate leadership training programme that combines enjoyment, knowledge and engagement to create a successful leader. Whilst each package is designed specifically for the client, Monty offers practical tasks, performance analysis, and takeaways that can be used to improve performance immediately.
Monty is also an in-demand keynote inspirational speaker, working with small companies at intimate dinners or seminars, as well as international conferences in front of thousands of delegates. His talks are entertaining, informative, powerful, and memorable, providing honest accounts of his Royal Marines career, media experience and expeditions.
MONTY’S FOUR KEY PROMISES
Inspirational: What makes Monty’s talks stand out amongst the rest is their ability to inspire delegates. He catches their attention from the start, energises them, makes them listen, and inspires them to go on and help themselves.
Humorous and Engaging: No team or leader succeeds without making a few mistakes along the way. Success is not all highs; you have to take the lows as well. Monty explores these moments with humour and provides methods of using mistakes to improve success.
Thought Provoking: Monty’s talks ask delegates to look at themselves, to figure out what makes them tick, what helps them operate as individuals, as team players, as leaders, or as a wider organisation.
All Encompassing: Monty has experience working with small and large companies, at business celebrations, intimate dinners and seminars, offering humorous after-dinner speeches, presentations and corporate workshops.
Monty’s expertise is in high demand, and he often contributes articles to global magazines and newspapers. He has also written a dozen books on expeditions, adventure and history, including Dive: The Ultimate Guide: 70 of the World’s Top Dive Destinations (2008), The Great Escape: Adventures on the Wild West Coast (2010), My Family and the Galapagos (2020), Escaping Hitler: Stories of Courage and Endurance on the Freedom Trails (2017), and bestsellers The Fisherman’s Apprentice (2012) and Commando: The Inside Story of Britain’s Royal Marines (2022).
In 2003, Monty was awarded the Bish Medal by the Scientific Exploration Society for his services to the world of exploration. In 2010 he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Plymouth University, and in 2016 was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Diving medal by Sport Diver magazine.

In 20 years of running the Yorkshire International Business Convention, I have only booked two speakers for a return visit. Monty Halls is one of those speakers.

All speakers were great but Monty Halls’ talk was absolutely brilliant! #INSPIRATION.
He is the best in the business.
Superb. Funny and moving in equal measure. Feedback from our delegates has been outstanding.
Monty was one of the best after-dinner speakers we have ever had, and we’ve had many professional annual dinners, held over many decades.
Monty was very enthusiastic and quickly responded with outline ideas and constructive proposals to meet our requirements. On the day he was a tremendous success.
Thank you for a fantastic team-building day. It was insightful and energetic and brought some excellent experiences to the fore, which were relevant to the culture we are trying to create.
I personally found your performance to be absolutely professional and have never received such positive feedback for any guest presenter in the UK company’s 17 year history!
Fantastic, best leadership event I have ever attended. I would certainly recommend Monty to anyone who is planning an event like this.
I have been attending this conferences for a decade, and that is the best presentation I’ve ever seen. Excellent style – very inspiring. Ten out of ten.
We have worked with Monty over two strategy days, initially as a motivational influence and more latterly as our planner/facilitator. Monty was very quick to understand the direction we wanted to go and provided insightful guidance and judgement. His enthusiasm and passion are infectious.
Our brilliant speaker Monty Halls managed to make grown men (and women) laugh and cry in his moving and inspiring talks.
