Mollie Hughes is a world record-holding mountaineer, adventurer and international motivational speaker.
Mollie Hughes first fell in love with the mountains at the age of 17 when she joined a school expedition to climb Mount Kenya. From then, Mollie would save up as much money as she could in the year and then spend it all on an expedition over the summer, something she did throughout school and university.
She has climbed in the Indian Himalayas, the Nepalese Himalayas, Volcanos of Ecuador, North and East Africa and has spent much time in the European Alps, as well as the mountains of the UK.
Mollie was the youngest woman in the world and the first English woman to successfully summit from both the north and south sides of Mount Everest, something she had achieved at the age of 26. In 2017, in temperatures of minus 35°C, she successfully reached the summit from the North side. Mollie had previously reached the peak of Everest from the south side in 2012.
Another world record winning achieved by Mollie was her solo skiing trip from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole.

Mollie Hughes | Antarctica Expedition
Mollie achieved her second world record by becoming the youngest woman in the world to ski solo from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole. The amazing feat was achieved on 10th January 2020. This was after 650 hours and 58 days of skiing alone in temperatures as low as minus 45C minus and dealing with storm-force winds and eight days of whiteouts.
She started her world record attempt at 1.40pm on Wednesday 13 November, departing from Hercules Inlet in Western Antarctica. She skied eastwards for 702 miles and arrived at the South Pole at 8.50am on Friday 10th January.
She had hoped to reach the South Pole by New Year’s Day, her quest was almost derailed by the severe weather she encountered in the first two weeks, with Mollie facing headwinds of more than 55knots.

Mollie Hughes was born on in July 1990 and grew up in Torbay in Devon.
She went to the University of the West of England, in Bristol studying psychology and sports. Her final year project investigated the psychological experience of climbing Mount Everest, interviewing seven male climbers who had all reached the summit. Millie explored their motivation, their ability to control fear, the psychological pressures faced, and their experience of reaching the summit.
Mollie Hughes is the first female president of Scouts Scotland.
