Mishal Husain is best known for being a newsreader and presenter on the Today Programme on BBC Radio 4 and the BBC News at Ten on BBC 1. She has also guest hosted The Andrew Marr Show, as well as BBC Breakfast, BBC News at Six, BBC World News, Impact and HARDtalk.

Mishal Husain first went down the route of legal studying, reading Law at Murray Edwards College Cambridge, before obtaining a masters degree in International and Comparative Law at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Her BBC career began in 1998 as a producer before becoming a presenter on BBC News and World News, and she hasn’t looked back. She has been front and centre for stories including the 2012 London Olympics and the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She was also picked to be the interviewer for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement chat.

She is a popular choice to host hard-hitting and critically acclaimed documentaries for the BBC. In the summer of 2011 she made a documentary titled How Facebook Changed the World: The Arab Spring, which documented how social media influenced the uprisings and protests in the Middle East in 2010. In 2012 she appeared in the documentary Gandhi, The Making of the Mahatma for the BBC. In 2014, Mishal received the Services to Media award at the British Muslim Awards. Then in 2015, Mishal won the London Press Club’s Broadcaster of the Year award and the Women in Film and TV’s Presenter of the Year award.

In 2018 she published her debut book, The Skills: From First Job to Dream Job, What Every Woman Needs to Know. In the book, Mishal aims to inspire and encourage women to make their dreams a reality by focussing on practical skills. She gathered advice for women of all ages, whether they are new graduates, working mothers or simply seeking a career change.

Mishal has contributed writings to The Independent as well as a number of online publications. Examples of topics she has written about include COVID laws, diversity, elections and politics, equal pay, the national budget, NHS, police and rail strikes.

In 2009 she chaired the judging panel for the Orange Prize for New Writers.
