Andrew Marr’s career has always been within the journalism industry. Beginning as a trainee and junior business reporter for The Scotsman, he moved to London in 1984 as their Parliamentary Correspondent and Political Correspondent before joining The Independent in 1986. Staying for a short time, he joined The Economist as their Political Editor, staying for six years before re-joining The Independent as their Political Editor. His skills saw him quickly move into the position of Editor by 1996, where he stayed for two years.

His expertise has always been in high demand, and he has since worked for The Daily Express, The Observer, and the New Statesman. He also became a go-to host, presenting documentaries for the BBC, including The Day Britain Died (2000), A History of Modern Britain (2007), Britain From Above (2008), Darwin’s Dangerous Idea (2009), The Making of Modern Britain (2009), History of the World (2012), The Diamond Queen (2012), Scotland and the Battle for Britain (2016), among many, many others.

He has been the face of BBC politics since 2000, working as their Political Editor and hosting their Sunday morning programme Sunday AM, which was soon renamed the eponymous Andrew Marr Show. He is also a familiar voice on our radios, having reported for Radio 4’s Start The Week, LBC’s Tonight With Andrew Marr, and Classic FM’s Sunday morning show.

He is known for his expert interviewing skills. He has spoken with some of the world’s most important political figures, including former Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Scottish MP Alex Salmond, and former UK Prime Ministers Gordon Brown, Theresa May, and Boris Johnson.

As of 2023, he had written two fictional books; the first, Head of State (2014) was a thriller about British politics during the time of Brexit, and the second, Children of the Master (2015), which explored the inner workings of party politics.

But he is best known for his well-researched non-fiction books, including The Day Britain Died (2000), My Trade: A Short History of British Journalism (2004), A History of Modern Britain (2007), The Making of Modern Britain: From Queen Victoria to V.E.
