Dwayne Fields

Born in Jamaica, Dwayne Fields came to the UK at the age of six.

His formative years in the UK were in inner-city London and, wrapped up in the world of street gangs, he became a victim of both knife and gun crime.

After a life-threatening incident, Dwayne Fields made the decision to change his life… forever.

Fast forward and Dwayne became the first black Briton to walk over 400 miles to reach the Magnetic North Pole.

Dwayne is also one of the explorers guiding two-time Academy Award® nominee Will Smith on Welcome to Earth, a Disney+ original series from National Geographic, an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime adventure around the world to explore Earth’s greatest wonders and reveal its most hidden secrets.

He is also working on his own series for Disney+ and National Geographic called Seven Toughest Days in which he will push himself to the absolute edge by getting dropped into some of the most extreme places on earth – during the harshest time of the year – for seven whole days.

More About Dwayne Fields

As a child in wild Jamaica, Dwayne loved nature and wildlife and wanted to reconnect to his early life in the forests and hilltops of Jamaica.

Dwayne went about making his ambitions become a reality achieving an Honours Degree in Psychology, International Development and Business Management, followed by three years as an electrical engineer on the London Underground, constantly building experience and the resources to fulfil his dreams of travelling the globe.

So in 2010, Dwayne was able to set himself his first of many challenges, becoming the first black Briton to walk over 400 miles to the magnetic North Pole. On his return he was invited to Buckingham Palace, joining other polar explorers and adventurers and at a reception to mark the centenary of Scott’s expedition to the South Pole.

Since then his life has become richer, living a life of adventure and exploration, Inspiring young people nationwide to explore the ‘great outdoors’ – wherever that may be.

At the end of 2019 Dwayne and his expedition partner Phoebe Smith, on a mission to engage young people to realise there are epic adventures on their own doorstep, highlight environmental issues close to home and turn the spotlight on wildlife conservation efforts undertook an expedition from the northernmost to the southernmost points of mainland Britain, in their ‘Seabirds to South’ adventure. This was the same distance they will walk in their planned carbon neutral trip to Antarctica in 2022. Their next project is to take a group of underprivileged young people to Antarctica in 2021 on a specially chartered expedition ship through their #WeTwo Foundation.

As a consequence, Dwayne has been awarded the City of London’s highest honour, The Freedom of the City of London’ by the Lord Mayor, for his work with young people.

He has been interviewed about his exploits on all media including the ‘Daily Politics Show’ and has also spoken about his personal goal which is to engage intercity youth with the countryside.

As a naturalist, Dwayne also appeared as a special guest on BBC’s ‘SpringWatch Unsprung’ with Chris Packham, where he explored the wonders of the British Countryside.

Dwayne Fields – Inspiring others:

Dwayne is an advocate for encouraging people to get outdoors and explore the world around them.

His focus is particularly on encouraging young people growing up in inner cities to get out and experience nature and a life with which they have not previously been engaged.

Dwayne is an Ambassador of The UK Scouting Association and a ‘Get Outside’ Ambassador for Ordnance Survey and The Woodland Trust.

He is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and on the 4th of June 2018, Dwayne was awarded the ‘Geographical Award’ by its Director Prof Joe Smith for empowering young people to explore the world.
